Sports, History, Expectations & Experiences

Whats the connection between Sports, History and Expectations and more importantly with what our line of business is - "Wealth Creation". Well, you will figure out soon. 1st lets cover the history part of the story. Below are the 3, 5 & 10 Year Returns of the Nifty50, Nifty Midcap 150 & Nifty Smallcap 250.

Quite handsome returns aren't they? Now lets talk Sports and more specifically 2 sportsperson -

Alastair Cook  - the Test Great

Yuvaraj - The White ball Wonder

Cook was a test match great & Yuvi was a white ball wonder, made for big tournaments. Both have achieved so much in the respective formats. Imagine, if these two had a conversation what would that go like -

Well it happened in May 2015 when all of Yuvraj's heroics were a little history but he was still hot property in IPL and Cook has just gone past 10,000 Test runs -

So, here's a winner of 2 World Cups, Man of the Series in one of them talking to one who never even got the chance to participate in one and wanting it to swap it all!

Thats what expectations does to us. May be Yuvi always expected himself to be a Test Match Player, always wanted to do great things in whites but he never made it big in red ball cricket and felt he wasn't as successful while Cook expected himself to be a great White ball player just like he was in Test cricket. Expectations matter a lot and they influence your experience of life so much!

WIth this in context, we need to look at our financial life as well. The Markets have been rewarding in the past few years and that has set a very wrong expectation guideline for new investors who have come into market thinking fancy stuff will happen and we also see sane people "swapping" all their wealth & wisdom for this fancy stuff and YT/Insta reels have only fuelled this fire more.

Silence speaks louder than words but numbers speak the loudest

So lets leave with a simple fact -

Investment compounded 12% over a 20-year period multiplies 11 times and same compounding @ 15% multiplies the money by 20 times. If you are expecting a higher multiplication of money, then Ask yourselves -

What experience of life you are setting up yourself for?
